HOW WE HELP

EO-derived current profiles, habitat maps, and support for co-location with fisheries and maritime routes

 EO PROJECT IMPACT

  • EOMAP’s tool will provide crucial data on tidal resource (near-shore water stream velocity profiles) and wave kinematic data (wave velocity, length, direction, and period, potentially height). (REQ-MRE-11)
  • Site location information: Water quality, Bathymetry, Seafloor/habitat (depending on water depth of deployment)
  • Insights in the usual routes of local fishermen and maritime traffic and together with DMEC establish a plan to establish harmonious multi-use

PROJECT CONTRIBUTIONS

  • Tidal/estuary energy site selection use-case with data to validate the tools.
  • Contribution to understand the needs and requirements of a marine renewable energy operator (currently 4 sites in operation) with experience across both remote community and industrial use-cases.
  • Multi-Use Case by enabling the co-located usage of the tidal turbines with the fishery industry and maritime traffic in Canada, based on their past experiences in the US and Europe.
